Peace Group to Sponsor Free Films
A local grassroots peace group, DAWN, is sponsoring a Progressive Film Festival with two free films, both dealing with the subject of the Iraq war. ( Review and description below)
The Ground Truth directed by Patricia Foulkrod and recently available only in select theaters, presents the war in Iraq from a Marine's point of view. " Sometimes the greatest act of courage is to tell the truth" .
Iraq For Sale is Robert Greenwald's documentary which examines the connection between the killing in Iraq and those who are making a killing by profiting on the spoils of war.
The film screenings are free, and the public is welcome.
Organizers of the film festival, DAWN ( DuPage Against War Now) hope that the showing of the films will help viewers come to terms with their opinions about whether the Iraq war was justified and if the troops should begin to come home.
DAWN members were successful in getting a question of public policy placed on the Downers Grove Township ballot for the November 7th General Election. The question reads:
"Shall the United States Government immediately begin an orderly and rapid withdrawal of all of its military personnel from Iraq, beginning with the National Guard and Reserves?"

Organizers of the Progressive Film Festival hope that undecided voters will come to view the films.

The films will be shown in locations in Woodridge, Darien and Downers Grove over the next few weeks. Each film will be followed by a brief discussion.
